WEYERBACHER BREWERY &
COLONY MEADERY

CHALLENGE:

Weyerbacher Brewery and Colony Meadery, two respected names in craft beverages, were undergoing a brand expansion and revitalizing their visual identity. With new products like hard ciders, hard teas, light beer, coolers and flavored meads entering a competitive market, they needed packaging and marketing that would:

  • Stand out on shelves dominated by big-brand beers, ciders, hard teas, meads, coolers and more
     

  • Appeal to both long-time craft drinkers of the big, bold beers but create products that appeal to a younger, design-conscious audience
     

  • Unify multiple product lines (beer, cider, mead) under two separate visual identities for each individual brand
     

  • Establish a stronger presence in retail, digital channels and the local community

SOLUTION:

The final creative solution fused handcrafted charm with modern aesthetics:
 

  • Colony Meadery: Modern designs referencing both handcrafted quality and the natural origins of the product. The designs blends bold, clean typography and imagery, creating a shelf presence that stands out and appealing to the younger demographics.
     

  • Weyerbacher Brewery: A reputation for big, full flavored, brews. The established brands feature hand drawn illustrations that have been brought into a modern esthetic. The new additions blend bold, clean typography and imagery, giving them a high quality premium, upscale feel.
     

Across all designs, I introduced a flexible visual system that could scale across product lines while allowing each SKU to maintain its own character.

RESULTS:

  • Boosted Brand Recognition: Eye-catching packaging helped products stand out on shelves and in social feeds.
     

  • Increased Sales Velocity: Anecdotal reports from the client and distributors noted faster turnover of new SKUs in retail.
